Legal or Illegal

BoJo Asked: "What do you think about people who try and do good in the world. Acting in a public spirited way to help their fellow man."

There is an old Yorkshire saying, "If tha does owt for nowt, alus doit for thesen."  People who volunteer for a job in my experience are just the people you don't want to do the job. There is one area where I most often disagree with my fellow public spirited humans. So I thought it pertinent to touch on the topic. If you’re a light touch on regulation person like me, you’re probably familiar with the concept of trying to get rid of something by banning it.

The trade in misery has always done well. Some people enjoy the benefits of the trade, while others get to enjoy the misery. Drug dealers are one such group. As are pimps and human traffickers. The licencing on the trade in alcohol and especially gambling needs to be tightened up more. Where a government knows no shame - it is happy to enjoy the duty and tax that is generated from these occupations and pastimes.

Historically the tea-total, do-gooder twonks have taken to enjoying the odd but fervent god induced crusade. At various times they have declared war on prostitution, abortion, drug use, alcohol, and gambling. In the main I have some sympathy with their aims.

Prostitution, if legalised and licensed would get rid or help to reduce some of the problems. Such as street crawlers, violent pimps and human trafficking.  I am not anti-abortion either, but I do believe that the foetus has certain rights. I also think that drugs could be legalised and licensed.

Alcohol problem, then start by restricting the opening hours of pubs. Remove from supermarkets and corner shops alcohol sales.  Place into the hands of specialist alcohol suppliers for home consumption with a minimum price per unit of alcohol. Gambling in the form of betting shops should be banned on the high streets. Gambling should only be available at race meetings.

As sane and normal members of the public, we often point out that these (prostitution, abortion, drug use, alcohol, and gambling) are things that you cannot stop. People have done these things since the dawn of time, and will continue to do them no matter how much you try to stop them. Instead of wasting time and money trying to prevent the inevitable, why not legalise it, regulate it, and tax it to limit the damage and promote some public good.

Lindi St Clair AKA Marian June Akin, is the leader of the Corrective Party and campaigner for prostitutes' rights. Formerly Britain's most famous prostitute but now retired. St Clair achieved recognition when she accused the Inland Revenue in the High Court of England of being "Her Majesty's pimps" and living off immoral earnings, after its classification of prostitution as a trade in a high profile court case. Despite being taxed on her earnings, St Clair found when she attempted to register the companies, 'Prostitutes Ltd', 'Hookers Ltd', and 'Lindi St Clair (French Lessons) Ltd' that they were all rejected by the Registrar of Companies, and then 'Lindi St Clair (Personal Services) Ltd' was rejected by the Attorney General. St Clair was for a time renting Chancellor of the Exchequer Norman Lamont's basement flat in Notting Hill. At one time, she said that 252 Members of Parliament had been her client list.
